Titled the Magician, this unique sculpture is made entirely of laminated wood and then hand carved by the artist. The act featuring a Magician during his performance, as he is about to saw the lady in half. This large and wonderfully carved sculpture is by the late Floyd Shaman (American 1936-2005).
The detail and craftsmanship of this piece is superb. From the finely carved and realistic faces to the Magicians clothes with all the lines and wrinkles of a real suit coat. The hand saw is flawless and looks like the real tool, even down to the doweled handle holding the saw blade.
Floyd Shaman was a Mississippi Delta artist who was well known for his humorous yet finely crafted figural sculptures. Mr Shaman taught art at the Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi. He left academia around 1980 to become a full time sculptor.
